shivering cold.
wrapped up in all kinds of pajamas, sweaters, coats, blankets- we walk, on the frozen ice. Even the dead leave the place in cold.
Hands become numb in few minutes. legs covered in woolen socks are aroused by the chilled wind. the wind strikes us like spikes.

What lies behind is dead meat of thoughts.
Totally dead, even I do not want to accept their existence in my mind.
Sounds like extremists?
Well, we are so. We are group of people who are extremists. Extremists who kill their own thoughts, kill their own will and most of all, they are killers of their own judgement? What there to judge, they guess. Oh sorry, they don't even guess.

Midnight is approaching. The pungent smell of medicine again reminds me that I am in a hospital. I look up. My head has drooped on my chest in exhaustion; from morning to afternoon I was on the move in search of a rare medicine and finally found it in a small medicine corner in Old Dhaka. The expiry date sealed on the bottle was only a month from then. I hesitated. But there was no option.

This is 3rd in the series of translation of witness accounts collected in the book 1971: Dreadful Experiences. When translating I often feel at loss for proper adjectives in English that could do justice in describing the heinous atrocities these hyenas wearing Pak army uniform or calling themselves rajakar or "friend" committed. If the reader can think of more appropriate language that can help portray the intensity of the truth, please suggest. It will be much appreciated.

This is the second one in the series of the translation of the witness accounts presented in the book 1971:Dreadful experiences: edited by Rashid Haider. Since the last post, editor Rashid Haider and publisher Mafidul Haq has been contactd and they have given their blessings to this effort. Reader feedback on quality of the translation will be much appreciated. The target audience is non-Bangladeshis, so the translation has to be properly conveyed to them. Please encourage your non-Bangali friends to read it and communicate their feedback to the writer.

Barack Obama the poster boy for liberals who rode on his message of change that appealed to voters of US and mass people around the world is facing lukewarm response in the upcoming election of US. His presidency of last four years have failed to keep the same momentum that drove masses of people out of their couch to vote for the first black president of US, with a middle name Hussain.

  1. check gmail, yahoo, facebook for new updates/messages, every five minutes
  2. watch youtube documentaries on Kubrik and his movies
  3. write poems

About an year ago a few of us decided to take on a project on translating literature in Bangla on Muktijuddha to English, so it can reach a wider audience across the globe. The first book that was chosen for this project was " ১৯৭১ঃ ভয়াবহ অভিজ্ঞতা" edidet by Rasheed Haider. It records the first hand accounts of witnesses in their own writings. Here is the first one of those accounts listed in the book. I present it here for your feedback on the translation work, spelling suggestions and any other suggestion you may have to improve upon the work. The original text in Bangla can be found here.
