An expatriate colleague was enthusiastically asking about Shahbag movement at the lunch table today in Kathmandu. Apparently, the rest folks at the table queued their curiosity about the happenings in Bangladesh. It was of extreme surprise to the Nepalese folks to learn about the Projonmo Chattar and its genesis. And it's yet hard to believe to many of them that this movement is people lead.

Religion makes us feel special. It comforts us with the idea that we are superior than other species on earth. It gives some fancy misconceptions about reality and physical world. We like to think ourselves special. We like to think that we have a greater purpose in our life. We fantasize about afterlife. That hallucinates us from the very truth, the reality.

This is 3rd in the series of translation of witness accounts collected in the book 1971: Dreadful Experiences. When translating I often feel at loss for proper adjectives in English that could do justice in describing the heinous atrocities these hyenas wearing Pak army uniform or calling themselves rajakar or "friend" committed. If the reader can think of more appropriate language that can help portray the intensity of the truth, please suggest. It will be much appreciated.

This is the second one in the series of the translation of the witness accounts presented in the book 1971:Dreadful experiences: edited by Rashid Haider. Since the last post, editor Rashid Haider and publisher Mafidul Haq has been contactd and they have given their blessings to this effort. Reader feedback on quality of the translation will be much appreciated. The target audience is non-Bangladeshis, so the translation has to be properly conveyed to them. Please encourage your non-Bangali friends to read it and communicate their feedback to the writer.

Barack Obama the poster boy for liberals who rode on his message of change that appealed to voters of US and mass people around the world is facing lukewarm response in the upcoming election of US. His presidency of last four years have failed to keep the same momentum that drove masses of people out of their couch to vote for the first black president of US, with a middle name Hussain.

About an year ago a few of us decided to take on a project on translating literature in Bangla on Muktijuddha to English, so it can reach a wider audience across the globe. The first book that was chosen for this project was " ১৯৭১ঃ ভয়াবহ অভিজ্ঞতা" edidet by Rasheed Haider. It records the first hand accounts of witnesses in their own writings. Here is the first one of those accounts listed in the book. I present it here for your feedback on the translation work, spelling suggestions and any other suggestion you may have to improve upon the work. The original text in Bangla can be found here.
