According to teacher and students, injured BUETian Arif Rayhan Dwip was against the programs of Hefajat-e-Islam

Dwip's initiatives cost an Imam his job at a mosque in one the halls of BUET, who arranged food for the protesters of Hefajat-e-Islam during their long march.

On Tuesday morning culprits came into Najrul Islam Hall (student residence) and brutally stabbed Dwip. He was a third year student of Mechanical Engineering and a member of the convener committee of BUET Chhatra League. After being treated at Dhaka Medical College hospital, Dwip is currently admitted at Square hospital.

Dr. Pijush Kanti Mitra, a doctor at Dhaka Medical College hospital who treated Dwip told BDnews24.com that the attack had been made to kill Dwip.

Dwip was hacked with a sharp weapon on the head and back. His left eye was injured and in the risk of being permanently damaged. His back was so badly hacked, he required over 50 stitches according to the doctor.

Employees and students of Najrul Islam hall are terrified. They are not willing to disclose their identity while talking to anyone unknown.

Multiple students mentioned, Dwip used to live in the room 224 on the first floor. He was always very vocal against Jamaat-Shibir. They also said, last Friday night when the Imam of Shahid Smriti Hall arranged for food for the Hefajat long march participants with the help of the cook of that hall, some students along with Dwip protested about it.

The same time the students requested the director of Student Welfare Council Dr. Delowar Hossain
to take necessary actions. Dr. Delowar Hossaid told BDNews24.com, "Right after hearing of this incident, I temporarily suspended Imam Abdul Alim and asked him to show cause."

The convener of BUET Chhatra League Aminul Hoque Polash said, "Right after the Imam got suspended, some students started to bad mouth Dwip in the facebook group for BUET students called 'BUETIAN'. They also started to spread that Dwip was responsible for getting the Imam fired"

Life threats were given to Dwip from unknown mobile phone numbers as well, complained Polash.

The Chhatra League leader commented that the attack on Dwip exposed the lack of security of students in the halls. Some students who preferred to remain anonymous said that the security in the halls is very weak. The other halls have CC camera, this hall doesn't even have that.

Najrul Islam hall is located at one end of BUET campus and the building is quite old. There is small gate near this hall that leads to Bakshi Bajar Alia Madrassa.

Najrul Islam hall provost Dr. Mo. Afsar Ali expressed his regrets about the attack on student and said he is talking to the administration about making the security striker around the halls.

The OC of Chawkbajar, Ajijul Hoque, mentioned that this incident of student being attacked inside BUET hall is being investigated with utmost importance. He said, a machete and a handbag has been recovered from the site.

Deputy-commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Harun-Ur-Rashid told the journalists that the Hall guard Md. Jakir Hossain (40) was brought into Lalbag police station for interrogation. Referring to Jakir, Harun said, the attacker is around 30 years old, wore Pajama-Punjabi and topi and was bearded.

Police recovered a bag in that room in which a pair of Pajama-Punjabi and a machete has been found. The receipt of purchase of the machete was also found in the bag. In the receipt, it was mentioned that the purchase was made on February 28th but the name of the store was not mentioned.
