A Small Story of Sucess

Today I convinced an initially pro-Shahbag but currently Shahbag indifferent friend to start writing for Shahbag. Like so many people in Bangladesh, she has been adversely affected by the political and religious propagandas and had decided to remain neutral about Shahbag despite having a strong desire to see the war-criminals punished. Like so many Bangladeshis, she had given up hope and reached the conclusion that nothing could be done. Today I passed on to her a piece I had written, just as reading material that I hoped would help with her insomnia. In a few minutes she excitedly asked me if I had written the piece (it was written under a pseudonym) and upon my confirmation she said something that made me a little more hopeful. She said I had inspired her to write.

Not all of us can run out to the streets and chant slogans day in and day out, lots of people have prioritized their jobs and family safety, many people are not confident enough of even afraid to have a physical presence in the movement (all justified) but we all have something to contribute. Write, tweet, Facebook and spread the message. Let your voice be heard through written words. And if even that is not possible, you can hope for in the end hope is what keeps us going. Winning does not necessarily mean sucess, it also means never giving up. Joy Bangla!
